Rolling thread of updates for April 2023

ROOFTOP SICNAL

Rooftops INSIDE the Dome were being considered as Badlands rooms and they had a default jamming value akin to the Badlands. This is fine for many of the dome rooftops, including those in Red Sector. However, for those in Blue, Green & Gold, they made no sense. This has been modified so that if a rooftop is on Blue, Green or Gold, it should behave thematically.

FELIBOT CONTROLLER IN THE DARKNESS

When a robot is in the darkness, the feed previously respected the room being dark, but the felibot controller did not. Now, it should show that the feed is too dark to see.

HELP UE

I've updated this helpfile to clarify that UE carryover from past characters, a change we made in 2022 (when we upped it to 10% instead of 6%, and made it the total UE earned across all characters) is not retroactive. That means we weren't tracking your total UE earned previously, and it only counts it from characters that perm post the change. So if you had 3 characters prior to the change, they aren't counted towards your total UE earned.

BUG UNLOCKING DOORS

Fixed a bug related to pushing doors open not working under certain circumstances.

TRANSFER NOTIFICATIONS ON VISUAL OVERLAY

You now get a notification about transfers made to your account if you have a visual overlay. You can roleplay this as a firmware update.

NPC SIC ALIASES

There was a possible TB due to the NPC being checked having recycled prior to the code finishing running. I've resolved that with some additional checks for validity.

VEHICLE COMBAT MESSAGES

Thanks to the amazing help of a player, who did all the work, all vehicle combat messages have been updated using the new editor tool. I haven't tested these fully, but I think this update should resolve a lot of the wonkiness we've seen the past year or so with messages. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE HELP.

Moving forward if you see wonky messaging, please do @bug it.

FIRE DAMAGE & BARS / BARTENDERS

Now, if a location has a fire / fire damage, the bar cannot be used and the bartender will not serve drinks until the fire damage has been cleaned up.

HELP JOB

This has been updated to state that if you're going to stop playing or be away for awhile, you should @note and let your boss know ICly if possible. Not doing so could affect your IC opportunities for employment in the future, cause you ICly ghost quit. We know people get busy IRL -- we want to be able to redirect RP that would go to your character to someone else or a different role, or replace characters in important positions, so that other players are not impacted by someone being gone for weeks or months without the GMs knowing when they will be back.

STREET-TERMS DISPLAY LATEST POSTS

The StreetTerms now display the latest posts from the forums. Hopefully this is the first of more ways we can implement in the future to include the Grid world in the MOO world in the coming months.

SICNAL IN SPECIFIC ROOMS

Previously, I implemented a change that was meant to fix the issue with SIC in Dome rooftops. This actually happened to create an edge case where rooms that were jammed forcefully in topside sectors were no longer jammed. We have reverted the solution I had drafted for this.

ROOFTOP SICNAL

Instead, we are narrowing it down to the specific class of the rooftops creating this issue. These rooftops can be in any sector, but they have a default value for jamming. They do not differentiate between sectors. So we are playing to that value and substracting it if it is in a topside sector. This means that by default rooftops in Gold, Green and Blue are not jammed (unless the value is higher than the default), but rooftops anywhere are jammed.

BUG ON HEAT DISPLAY IN VEHICLES IN DYNAMIC ROOMS

There is a bug when a vehicle is going too fast where the heat display on it will traceback. This has been resolved to not traceback. The underlying bug still exists due to dynamic rooms, which is a well-known bug with dynamic rooms and vehicles, but you will not get a traceback anymore.

USING A PROGIA 11

We are due too many improvements on the Progia-11 system, but this time we had to patch something real quick. Using the progia-11 will now have an echo to the room. Previously, you could use it with nobody knowing you are using it.

KEYING THE MIC FIXES

You can now key the mic. The situation was broken, but it has been resolved and it should now be working appropriately!

PROGIA-11 MUST BE HELD

Previously, you could use a Progia-11 while it is in your pocket. Now, you need to hold it to use it.

SECURE TECH: ACCESS PANEL PURCHASES

These panels, when purchased, will now have a default combo and be unlocked by default. You can look at them to see the default combo. That way they are usable.

HORIZONS EDGE CHATTER

The NPC at this location is now subscribed to chatter like other NPCs of the same type at other locations.

PUBLIC RELATIONS JOB

This job didn't have responsibilities defined, it does now. These will show up on the job boards for these roles.

HYDRO GARDEN HARVEST

There was a TB when creating the basket for the harvest to go into due to a missing message. I've added the message and this should work now.

HYDRO GARDEN HARVEST - CONTINUED

The harvest was passing in the wrong object, resulting in the bag being filled with a generic and not the actual food items you were harvesting. This is now resolved, and you should get the proper items when you harvest.

HYDRO GARDEN INFINITE HARVEST

There was nothing reducing the blooms when you harvested a hydro garden so you could have harvested it a billion times. This has been fixed.

HYDRO GARDEN HARVEST - MESSAGING

The harvest garden was saying it was ready to be harvested when it was in 'life state 5' which is the best state. However, the harvest code actually requires it to be 'blooming'. I've updated the messaging for life state 5, and added a new message in bright white when you look at the hydro garden if it is ready to be harvested, which tells you how many times you can harvest it.

VEHICLE COMBAT -> DRIVER OFFLINE / KO'd

Vehicles will now leave combat if their driver is not online or is not awake. This means their weapons will not fire, they will not dodge, etc.

AERO VEHICLE COMBAT -> LANDED

If the aero is on but you are landed and not hovering, the vehicle will leave combat. You must be in the air to fight with an aerodyne. This means their weapons will not fire, they will not dodge, etc. if landed.

CLINIC -> WAKEUP

This now requires the person trying to be woken up is a player/npc. If it isn't one, it will fail. This was a weird edge case where if a players name started with the same thing as something in the room, it might match the item instead of the player and give you a TB.

SERVICE OPTIONS TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER DRINKS ON BARTENDERS

If you were to submit gossip that there was a bomb at the Drome, you'd instead order a Withmore Car Bomb, because it was checking drinks before other options. I've reversed the order, and added an additional bit of code to support that reversal. You should now be able to submit gossip that has the names of drinks in it.

If anyone notices weirdness with this change (totally possible) please @bug it.

SEALING ART CLEARS INSPECTION

If you seal art, it will clear your inspection cache for that art, so you can inspect it again and get the updated value.

REMINDER

When you inspect something, it uses your stats/skills. Then it caches that result so you can't spam inspect to try to find a different value / average if you got a good or bad roll. This applies to lot of items in the game and isn't always intuitive (inspect a holster with a gun in it then take the gun out and it will still show as super valuable). For the most part we are not making changes to this. Just wait an hour and inspect again. For things that SHOULD DEFINITELY change values, please @Bug it.

EJECTING KO'D / DEAD PEOPLE FROM VEHICLES

This will auto pass now, instead of doing the roll it was doing, if the person is not awake, which includes dead people.

HORIZONS EDGE CROWD RESPONSES

This place should now have crowd responses for performances.

PICK A / STEAL A IN COFFIN

There was a weird situation where you could pick or steal from someone like 'pick a' 'steal from a' in a coffin. I've resolved this. There was a partial fix in place but it didn't apply to all coffins due to parentage hierarchy.

ACCESS PANEL PROGRAMMING

These didn't actually have a command to change their combo. I've added one.

ACCESS PANELS HELP FILE

These didn't have a help file and there was confusion about what they are for. I've added one that you can use when you have one on you or in the room with you.

ACCESS PANEL HELP

Access panels are a special type of wiring hub. They can have commands that are only visible in examine when you have one open. They are intended to provide a variety of different functionality based on different types that exist in the game. The main functionality that is implemented currently is simply a lockable wiring hub. But there are hubs in game currently that will allow you to mess around with things like SIC signal in an area, and we plan to release more things like this over time.

OPENING

use 'open name'

UNLOCKING[where applicable

Some access panels can be locked. That means you can't get access to certain verbs when they are locked.

To unlock, use 'push combo on name'

PROGRAMMING [where applicable]

Access panels have a simple command to change the combo.

- push program on name

- enter the current combo

- enter the new combo

- you are done

BREAKING INTO PANELS

The functionality doesn't currently exist, but it is intended to exist in the future, so please recognize that having one of these does not mean the combo is the only way someone will ever be able to open it. They are specifically intended to support being broken into, and as you are reading this, it's possible that is coded and we just forgot to update this.

ACCESS PANEL DEFAULT CODE

There were some ways of these getting into game where they would have a code set and not use the default. I've fixed that. However I am not touching the IC items that were already created as I don't know what is what without looking into each one.

COMBOS FOR ACCESS PANELS YOU BOUGHT NEW

If you bought an access panel NEW, and the combo is not 1234, which in some cases it may not be, please put in a service request to SENIOR for the code to be reset. Include where and when you bought it so I can confirm. Do not put one in if you just happen to have one in your pad or found one. This is if you got it from a store/kiosk and it happened to have a combo set.

ANTI CORP DISPATCHER NPC

These were getting triggered to corps even if they didn't have a corpsec member online. I've fixed that.

LOAN REIMBURSEMENTS

I've added a message when you request a reimbursement to also submit a service request for the reimbursement so this doesn't fall off the GMs plates.

I've processed all pending reimbursements for loans where the loanee was dead or hasn't logged in for more than a month.

I've updated the admin on how these should be handled.

PROGIA GRIDPHONE UPDATE

I'm posting this update but 90% of the work on these was done by Neon. So he gets the credit here.

YOUR PHONE HAS BEEN RENAMED!

There are no longer Progia-7 / Progia-9 / Progia-11 gridphones. All gridphones are 'Progia gridphone' now. This is ICly explained by an over the air firmware upgrade that took place. There was an IC post about it on the Grid. The only exception to this is the progia-3, which is a craftable item if you know how. That remains untouched, and should function like it did before.

PROGIA-7 & PROGIA-9 MIGRATION

The over the air update has given these phones access to an app store where apps can be purchased and installed. The only app installed on these phones is the 'app store'. Apps can be installed, and they cost money, paid from a linked bank account.

This also means if you had a progia-7, you now have access to *69 & redial & caller id which were only on the 9+ before. You're welcome.

PROGIA-11 MIGRATION

Progia-11s were given the messaging and contacts apps. You do not need to purchase these apps. You already had them on the 11, so you have them installed.

Your contacts and messages were migrated automatically, though the message received/sent time would be the time of the migration for old messages.

APP STORE

The app store has several apps available for install. Anyone with a phone can buy and install these apps. This is why we got rid of the different models. The phone itself and its value is based on the apps installed. So if you have a bunch of apps installed, your phone will be worth more when inspected/sold.

There are apps for contacts, messaging, as well as a few new ones like a Mag-Lev tracker, and a Bank app.

BUYING APPS

You can buy apps with a linked bank account which is done through bio-metrics. Whoever is holding the phone is the one who's bank account will be charged.

FEATURE PARITY IN PROGRESS

- There are still a few features missing from the new gridphone, you can't choose a ringtone yet. It'll be added soon
- Resetting -- there was a decker ability to reset gridphones back to default, which would reset minutes and texts and basically hard reset, this doesn't exist on the new phones, something similar will come soon

This help file has been updated to include more info on how to use the new phone.

STORES & VENDING MACHINES & NPC WANTS

We updated all the stores and vending machines we could spot that had old progia-9/progia-7/progia-11s. There should be NONE of these in game right now. If you spot a place where you can get one, or an NPC asking for one, @bug it so we can resolve it!

SIMPLIFIED CODE

There are 600+ progias in game. Having these all be of the same parent, makes the code much easier to manage, with fewer branching paths.

APPS

Apps are modular and easy to create. The phone acts as a pass-through for these apps. That means we can decouple the app from the phone and use a simple interface to create new apps. We already have more functionality from apps than we had previously. The code should be MUCH easier for us to modifier, extend, and maintain.

USER INTERFACE CHANGES

The user interface and how you use the progia (primarily for prog-11 users) is very different now. The menu system should be much better and it should be easier to use after you get used to it.

FUTURE THINGS WE ARE CONSIDERING

- Black market app store
- Decker stuff for progias/apps to install & side-load apps
- phone cases (since you can't show how baller you are just by pulling out a progia-11 anymore-- maybe we do something with phone cases which updates the name to like: gold plated progia gridphone
- phone engraving
- an app that costs 100,000c that does nothing.

There will definitely be some bugs with this. Please @bug them (after checking someone hasn't already bugged it)

DELETING MESSAGES ON PHONES

Somehow, I forgot to add this. Now, you can delete phone messages.

BUG ON DELETING MESSAGES

If you wrote invalid input into the select menu for deleting messages, it would TB. it does not TB anymore.

PAYMENT WHILE SHROUDED

There are some issues surrounding paying while shrouded. Some of them should be resolved. Now, when you pay for an app, the messages are separated in two messages. If you shroud yourself while it is mid-payment (which means we can't retrieve your balance), it will error gracefully but inform you that your payment was processed.

Feel free to test paying while shrouded if you'd like, would help us if you find bugs!

PHONE PRINT BUG

Phone printing was defaulting to the player. We discovered this while testing bank transfers and they would print to a remote player. The print functionality has been fixed so it definitely only prints to the holder.

WSB PHONE APP BANK TRANSFERS

If you are holding your phone, you will get notifications for when you receive chyen from the bank. You need to hold your phone to get these notifications, to go along with the lore of the biometric features on the phone. I think this also makes it balanced and gives windows to cheat people.

We have created a phone app showing you the IC date and time.

BUG ON USE

When you picked the wrong option, it gave you a TB. No longer the case.

NEW NOTIFICATION SYSTEM FOR PROGIAS

Created a new notification system which emits both sound and prints something on the screen. it also is smart about displaying where it is. For example, if I am holding it, it will show to the room:

UNREAD MESSAGES DISPLAYED ON MESSAGES APP HOMEPAGE

The messages app homepage on Progias now displays the amount of unread messages you have. You can view this homepage by opening the app and looking at the progia.

Homepages are a feature that all apps have. Most have the default, but as we take time to improve the existing apps they might get more cooler homepages.

UNREAD MESSAGES IN LAST DAY READ ON HOMEPAGE

Similar to how phone notifications work, you can now look at your phone when the messages app is open, and see the last unread messages in the last day. If more than a day has passed, it will still add to the unread count, but no longer be displayed.

CONTACTS & MESSAGES INTEGRATION

If you have a contact saved, and they send you a message, it will show you their contact name rather than the number. This functionality also is replicated when you read all messages, it will either show you the contact name & number, or just the number if you do not have them saved.

APP AVAILABILITY & APP STORE

Added an availability variable which will determine if an app store should be visible in the app store. This helps when creating new apps and they are yet unfinished, but also lays the groundwork for a black market of apps / apps you need someone to install on your phone manually in the future that are not available through the app store.

NOTIFICATIONS ONLY ON INCOMING MESSAGES

You will no longer receive a notification when you send a message, only when you receive it.
