Character names at Town Hall?
"Hey I love your character"

In the past, we used to use our character names at the Town Hall. I really enjoyed this because it felt like we were able to speak more in depth about issues that affected the game, since we weren't always trying to hide info about who we played. Also, we got to tell our IC enemies that we love how they RP their character, which really meant a lot.

I don't like using OOC names at Town Hall because it feels too impersonal. Town Hall should be special.

We took a poll and people preferred OOC names for a variety of reasons. The biggest being that it let them discuss things without the same IC bleed or assumptions from other people (or themselves).

I miss Character names too. Being able to tell someone I love to hate their character was nice. It let us break from IC a little and express ourselves OOCly with the blurring of the character IC barrier. But that same reason I believe was part of the issue IIRC. Especially since I mostly abstain from the discord and I don't know many of you well enough through OOC means to converse

I see both sides to this, but it would be nice to be able to complement people on their roleplay or whatever.

It would also make it easier to actually have conversations, because the only systems you can talk about are the ones you know, and your own experiences. Yes, you can strip out all the IC info, but at that point you really limit how you can express how impactful a change/situation was.

On the other side though, it really does seem like there's the potential for animosity if people suggest changes that could be seen to benefit their character or their character's friends, even if those points/suggestions are given in good faith.

Yeah, I want to hear ideas and review them on their merits. It's a balancing act. The people who have the most feedback on features are the ones that use them, but also they are the ones that benefit from changes to those features (most of the time). I think that issue exists regardless of if we use IC or OOC names, because staff knows who people are and we discuss the why behind feedback and change requests fairly often.
I loved character names because it humanizes characters, and helps to break bleed, it is a good reminder that we are all humans behind our screens and we all have opinions and the game's wellbeing as a common interest.
I've been to a town hall with character names, and indeed it was fun and wholesome to have a break in character where we could all appreciate each other.

However at this moment I really appreciate the chance to do without, having recently returned to the game and not wanting to connect my new character, subconsciously or otherwise, to my previous one as I explain my position on some topics.

Being able to tell a certain character, "Hey I enjoy hating you/ playing with you" Can probably be better accomplished by just doing that IC. I feel that the most sanitized approach to OOC is the best approach for a variety of reasons.

While some people go out of their way to link characters to forum accounts, I tend to prefer someone being able to speak freely at these events without having to worry about any stigma being attached to their character. In a perfect world, anyways. Too many people seem to be worried about what others will think of them OOCly which leads to unwillingness to betray characters you've befriended, unwillingness to discuss sensitive topics oocly in an honest manner, or afraid to play sindome how they wish to play sindome (within the rules of course) because of how people might OOCly discuss it. Therfore, I vote to keep as is.
