Apartments in Gold
Consort with unsavory individuals in meatspace!

Idea:

Introduce a new area in Gold that has rentable apartments. This place is typical corporate brutalism. Buzzing fluorescent lights, raw concrete walls, no decorations, only sterile sensors. Judges love it, mixers feel watched, corpies feel "almost there".

The target audience of this housing accomodation is service mixers who work in Gold and junior corpies who have not been "elevated" to Green yet. In order to make Green more exclusive for corpies who have earned the merit of living in a safe, clean sector.

As such, junior corpies are not immediately welcome in Green at the moment they're hired. This place is not fancy at all, think of a Krakeon but right in Gold, where judges, mixers and low level corpies (juniors or interns) come together in a clash of social classes.

This new apartment building is only slightly better than the mix alternatives. Not fancy enough for the average shithead mixer, but good enough for aspiring corpies with subsidized housing. Think of soviet panel housing.

The idea here is really great, thematic and cool.

But, I think gameplay and narrative wise it's counter to the point. People stuck on gold do not belong in Withmore. Green is for Corps. Red is for everyone else. Everyone in the interstate is constantly in a flux and pull between those two worlds. You live in a dingy cube. You take showers in public. You have no safe place to call your home, to have a conversation. If you're clever, you hide your nature and remain on Red, if you're supported, you get an apartment in Krakeon and endure ridicule but enjoy safety and home.

I think an apartment would probably cut down on what I think is the ideal place for people to suffer while they try to move between worlds.

Both have strong points.

I like the concept of making the class divide even more intense with layers and layers, since that's the half the theme of cyberpunk to begin with.

What if as a start, the megacorps forced probationary employees / fresh juniors to live in cubes and we see how it goes from there?

I personally am a big fan of furthering the class divide topside, senior corps being highly snobby to their juniors, belittling them and making fun of them for being wagies ect. I feel that's how it was supposed to be between corpies and service mixers, but there's not enough competition between the two to create agitation or conflict.

If you're a corpie, treat service mixers worse! (imo)

What is the expected change in the gameplay loop from it? Like, what do we expect this to enable and how does this make things better?

Personally I see it as making juniors life easier, skipping the commute, less motivation to borrow chy for a vehicle, reduced risks of attack, or otherwise scrounge to make it happen, and just because icly they are cramped, it doesn't stop people from living in cubes for weeks on end, so giving them even nicer option just will make green even less attractive to live in.

I think it's questionable wether there will be a reduced risk for attack.

It's significantly easier to wait somewhere on gold, like gangers from red sector hanging out in building lobby of whatever ect (also because of help crime and thematically less security). It would also give more things for corpsec to do, for example if a junior peeks out there door and sees a dangerous looking mixer outside corpsec could intervene or hire someone else to go and fetch that corpie.

But I do agree that it would make the levs highly underutilized and I find that a crucial part of the theme and experience for me personally, so unless that can be addressed i'd be against it.

People are way less vulnerable on Gold than they are on Red. This is because of help crime, the WJF presence, a more reliable sic network, shorter distances when calling for help, and both fewer escape routes and fewer hiding places for baddies.

I would like mixers to spend time in the mix, not on Gold. It already feels like a ghost town sometimes.

The idea behind this thread is to incentivize cross sector gameplay and change the divide, because right now it feels like corpies and mixers play entirely different games and live in isolated silos apart from each other, and there is NO reason for them to interact with each other unless they are "thematically inclined".
The lack of apartments on Gold is a design decision made with intention. We aren't looking to change that right now.
Are you sure there's no incentive for corpies and Mixers to interact, villa? I interact with a lot of corpies for biz.
