Skin Tone
how's this experiment feel?

If you haven't heard the rumor, there's an '@skintone me' command available to change the color used when incorporating a @naked message into your character's description.

At the moment, this is changeable per your discretion, but please try to do so with legitimate IC cause. It will probably get locked down at some point in the future so you can't be all willy nilly about it (and its set in char gen perhaps?). It might be nice to have codified blushing as a perception tell or sign of illness.

I'd like to understand if this is something we want to keep with Sindome. Some questions I have include the following:

- Does this add to your RP experience?

- Have you considered your character's race and/or skin tone prior to this?

- Has it introduced a racial element to your RP?

- Have you personally felt offended by the feature, either as the command is messaged or as others have used the feature in their RP?

If you could share your thoughts about it without breaking IC/OOC barriers in the context of those questions, I would greatly appreciate the feedback. Thank you!

I think as much as everybody says race isn’t a big deal, I find it to be one of those small details that bring things together. Instead of “He’s a tall guy, blonde hair, muscular build” like the typical lazy descriptions people give, now you can potential get “He’s a tall pale guy, blonde hair, muscular build. Must be a graft job because he looks like he’s never worked outside or something “. The color jumps out at you, so it makes it very apparent as well. I know people like to skim descriptions due to length, and I feel that skin color could be one of the first defining things you would notice about someone when you look at them.

I don’t feel like this should be taken for anything aside from what it is, and I’m a fan.

I love it! You can simulate getting a tan with this, if you wanted to. Along with this, it jives better with the new makeup colors. Suddenly I consider more what lipstick goes with my char's skin--because not everything will work well depending on the tone your char has.
Loving it, I think the pale skin tone looks a bit too white though.
- Does this add to your RP experience?

Yes. I think so. It helps me better visualize the other characters.

- Have you considered your character's race and/or skin tone prior to this?

Every time. And I actually like being able to set a skintone so I don't have to blatantly say something like, "This dark skinned man appears to be of African descent." Or anything else quite so blatant.

- Has it introduced a racial element to your RP?

Not really. Not more than has already been present at least.

- Have you personally felt offended by the feature, either as the command is messaged or as others have used the feature in their RP?

I have not.

Other thoughts:

- Maybe it would be cool for your eyes @naked to show up in the color you selected for your eyes or the color of your contacts.

- It would also be great if wearing a wig or contacts did not use colors that clash with @skintone

It's interesting, and it seems like other people like it.

For me personally, the skin-tone colored text is just slightly off-putting. Lighter shades really jump out in a way that drowns out the normal colored text around them. I'm assuming it's something I'll get used to but my initial reaction wasn't great.

Please don't lock down the colors. People might decide to get a tan or that they didn't like the way their initial choice looks.

One of my hesitations about this is that before, the color of the text did not represent the color of what you were describing. Now it does. So you have descriptions of your eyes, your hair, your tattoos, that are flesh colored instead of whatever color those things actually are.

In my ideal scenario, you'd be able to tag color in your nakeds like how painting works, that way you could show different splashes of color for skintone, hair color and eye color without overwhelming the eye.

I really like @skintone, though I think that locking it down is not ideal -- at least until people settle on what the right skin tone is. It does definitely add to RP, and I don't think it's offensive.

I do wish we could put haircolor and eyecolor into descriptions, and it seems like color in tattoos would be an awesome downstream functionality.

I like this a lot. Not being aware of the change, I had definitely noticed it in the game though. I was starting to wonder if my client was messed up because my character's skin tone install that generic boring yellow. Now that I know I can change it, I can't wait to log back on and start messing with it.
I had considered the hair color as well Pavane. I thought it would fit like the eye color idea I presented. But there is no hair @naked. Just a head @naked. And if I had to choose between skin tone and hair color for the head slot I would personally prefer the skin tone.
This is great, I love it. I really hope one day we see the eye/hair color idea as well.

Is it currently possible with what is already set in place to also be able to have those much darker skin tones like Pantone 322-1 C and Pantone 323-1 C in the game?

I was thinking with haircolor and eyecolor being able to reference them, kind of like how you do %color in clothing --

So 'He has %haircolor hair that falls in loose bangs around his face.' and 'Her %eyecolor eyes have a piercing quality.' or whatever.

As someone who has had there character's ethnicity go largely unnoticed at times - this is pretty sweet. I can tell a degree of thought and sensitivity went into aspect of it for obvious reasons. It's a nice touch.

To Pavane's point, I think way to reference and possibly modify the colorful aspect of your characters description via variable along with biomods would be nice. Do I want to struggle to read some weird biomods purple @nakeds description? Not really...but if they paid good chy for it so be it.

I'm loving this feature! A couple things would really take it over the top, some of which others have said.

If biomods were taken into account for color that would be sweet. So it would be beyond "their skin looks weird" to something that is appropriate for that particular mod.

Also, it seems like as far as I've seen, tattoos match the skin color. It would be really cool if the tattoos could show up as a different shade so they "pop" a bit more. If this is something ICly possible please ignore me. It could be one set color for all tattoos so it stands out. Maybe something skin tones can't be set to so there's no skin they blend in to?

Overall, really cool feature though.

Can someone's @skintone be added to their glance info please?
