Ok how are they going to sustain life on mars you ask…well I'll tell you...algie! heh. apperently Mars has a surplus of CO2, so their plan is to transplant algie onto the planets surface but its still to cold.....
Problem solved.....the problem the earth has is too much polution causing the green house effect, so they are building machines to convert mars soil into those gasses to warm up mars so that it is suitable for the algie........eventually their plan is to transplant trees up there and the humans....
tis all true I saw it on TLC:)

Ah, so we're going to pollute Mars in order to make it habitable, makes perfect sense :)
Actually, it'd probably work. Seems like it would.

I think the idea on Rigby's original post was in the movie '
The Red Planet' with Val Kilmer *nods* They'd shot rockets of algae up there, then it flourished but then disappeared. They brought this sweet military robot…and yeah...you rent the movie, it's pretty ok.
the movie 'Mission to Mars' is a bit more alien oriented *nods*
