What to read?

While it might sound strange here…. I've never read a single cyberpunk novel in my life, as far as I can remember. But, I would like for that to change. Any suggestions? The darker, the more tech-like, and the more kick-ass weaponry the better. Oh yeah, if its got swords and is CP, I know I'll love it.
*blinks*

Is it just me, or have people forgotten how to read? I could fucking  swear there was this topic in Cyberpunk Culture that is filled with books and things to read of a cyberpunk nature…I could swear...where the fuck was that?

Oh yeah: Respost: [ From Astrophel: Cyberpunk Novels ]

My my… Aren't we in a cheerful mood today? I was asking for -direct- recommendations. Things that would pertain to my venture deeper into the CP world. And believe it or not, I happen to like reading. Sometimes.
Try "Snowcrash" by Neal Stephenson.  Swords and Cyberpunk, plus some bitchin ideas.
I kinda like Neuromancer by William Gibson , I read that one a few times.
Iga was refering to reading the boards. There is a whole section already devoted to reading material. It's in this same division 'Cyberpunk Culture'
Gibson is the god of cyberpunk. You mention having read Neuromancer but not any of his other books. If you -haven't- read his other works but you like Neuro, you really should look up Mona Lisa Overdrive, Count Zero, Burning Chrome, Virtual Light, Idoru and All Tomorrows Parties.

Also, Mirrorshades: A cyberpunk anthology. - A collection of CP short stories by various authors and containing Gibsons The Gernsback Continuum and Red Star, Winter Orbit (both also in Burning Chrome).

Complete William Gibson Bibliography.

Course, there's a ton of other good cp authors out there. Check out books by: Pat Cadigan, Richard Calder, Jon Courtney Grimwood, Jack Womack (Check out "Random Acts of Senseless Violence" for my vision of life on Red.) and a whole host of other authors.

Personally Bruce Sterling's work has never tickled my fancy. I find he's frequently a little too sci-fi for my oldschool cyberpunk tastes, tho -many- would disagree.

Mmmmbop.

I did read burning chrome. I found it to be a very good read.  I also read a funny cyberpunk(ish) story called headcrash by some guy who's name I dont recall.
