Motorcycles
An easier solution...

We all know that the problem with motorcycles are that they aren't cars. That means that they can't use the same code that makes a 'room' that moves thru the other rooms (streets) of the MOO...

My idea is closed bikes. Something like the bike from Akira, with roof, plating on the sides and that opens up in order for the rider to either enter or leave it. Hence we'll have bikes for all with easy coding since they are copies of cars, trucks and vans.

I know it is cheating, but it's a solution for all you riders out there. Of course there could be small bikes that don't drink too much but also there will be those 3000cc huge monsters that make gallons per mile.

Covered bike coolness.
There is nothing that clever usage of descriptions can't fix. ;)

I've been wondering about bikes recently. I know cars are rooms that move about. Could you bastardize the in game system of security cameras to "record" what's going on inside the "room" ie. on the bike. and then "project" that onto the outer walls of the container so that everyone who is external to the room could see who/what is riding the bike? *wonders if this has been discussed before*

The only logistic problem with "fake" bikes would be that it's much easier to attack someone who's exposed while they are on a bike then if they where inside a car. Not sure how you would get around that bit of reality other then covered bikes.

Mind my unpleasent use of the wrong sort of terminology.

Nifty idea.

I'm not a great MOO programmer, but I know it wouldn't be hard to add who is 'ridding' the bike into the description of the motercycle.

But, all it would do would be to give the lower-class something to ride around on.  In my opinion atleast.  The way I figure it, the coolness of a motercycle would be that you could interact with the room you are in.

IE talking to players, catching a thrown object, or even driving by and shooting/stabing someone.   Plus, there would be the whole situation of a motercycle being able to go where a car wouldn't.  Like.. it would be perfectly feasable for someone to drive into a club, or bar while on one.  And if it was a big enough room, and you were skilled enough, you could drive around dodging bullets and shit while cutting of peoples heads or busting caps.

That would be awesome.

Well the outside needs to see in and the inside needs to see out in order for there to be any interaction possible.

I know piss about the coded structure of the MOO. Are all rooms identical in their dimensions? So that the differences come down to descriptions, capacity and how/where they move(don't move) about?

Hrm.  Right then...

*wanders off to steal a bike*
*ride into the WJF lobby at break neck speed.*
*fall off the bike and watch as it slides into the elevator*
*an explosion is seen, flames slamming out of the closing doors*
*the whole mess tumbles down the shaft, exploding again at the bottom*
"Crap. Now I have to take the stairs."

I have to say that, considering the length of the list.  That would be a waste of time.  Just put more effort into making real bikes... and less into something else.  Except cyberware... cause' I'd kill someone, infront of their own mother for cyberware, and if you testified against me I'd gouge your eyes out.(obscure ATHF refrances rule)
One of these days someone will have to get around to this stuff on the list. But I doubt it will be today.

I think today is slotted for....let me take a look at my day planner, Ah, yes, today is slotted for 'writing code to stop twinking out on pick-pocketing, shop-lifting (again), and stealth'. To be followed by a brief 'disscussion' between Iga, Johnny, and Kevlar over 'Grid phones' that will probably spill over onto the topic of 'personal grudges'. After that, with morale at another low spike, we will sit about for a bit, maybe have a bite to eat, then putz about off moo for a while. Come back later and maybe look into that problem that keeps popping up with lockers. Again. By then it will be midnight and thoughts of hitting the bed because you've got work in 7 hours seems like a good idea. So you grab some food, a shower, and head off to bed...then we'll wake up, go into work and log onto the moo and the BgBB, and read the ever growing list of things that players keep begging for rather than using what we've made, the ungrateful fucks, and then there is a good 30 minutes of schedualed 'grumpy-at-the-player-base' time. After which we'll get back to that damn locker problem, and maybe tweek DCD a bit more, see what happens with that. Puppet a bit, then chat a while. Post long rants on the BgBB (Iga and Kevlar mostly) and then get back into that Grid Phone discussion with calm heads and open minds.

Ah, a day in the life of a Sindome Administrator...

In Akira? If you mean Kaneda's bike...it certainly wasn't 'closed' by any means.

What's the difference between a mono and a closed cycle? the way you sit?

I just don't see this at all :(

There are all sorts of closed motorcycles in the UK. These silly little scooter like beasts with open sides and roofs and windsheilds.

Saw one myself. Looks...well, lets just say you won't be getting badass points for riding one about. Looked like a fun ride thought.

Ooo. those are fun. I've ridden on one, the length of a driveway, but still.

Good stuff for couriers, delivery people and such, anything that requires contents to stay dry/protected and still allows for the deft weaving in and out of traffic.

*adds moto helmets to the list* ;)

Yeah!!

What's Tron mean?

*snickers*

Wow, I auctially paused and reminisced about Tron when I read this.   God that sucked.....
writing code to stop twinking out on pick-pocketing

Oh, did I forget to mention I allready did that, and the change has been live for the past few days?

Gosh. How could I forget to mention such an important thing.

You pegged everything else though. Hit the nail on the head.

(See? I'm using an emoticon to show that I'm only half serious. Or am I?)

-Kevlar

No we just need to code better emoticons.  Like scar face ones that are half smiling half shooting you with revolvers.
Or ones that are digital shots of me yelling....wait, that's my avatar. Well, you can never have enough pictures of Iga yelling, looking mean, and generally grumpy!

NOPE!

ernt WRONG.

it wouldn't drink gas no matter how big the engine, simply becuase of the power to weight ratio. IE, the IRL Boss Hogg in daytona, FL. Its a small block V8 that gets 35 MPG doing 75 mph in 2nd gear. thats hardly drinking gas, and thats one HUGE engine. and my 1100cc gets 50 mpg.. so yeah NO BIKE WILL GUZZLE GAS.   EVER

" IE, the IRL Boss Hogg in daytona, FL."

Thats my hood yo! Where is this Boss Hogg?

boss hoss or boss hogg i forgot.. google it.

its a small block v8 like i said.

oh yeah, its a company.

www.bosshoss.com

there ya go. a little google goes a long way.

I have seen bikes that do 2Km per litre... Sure they were fast and shit, but they guzzled gas. Oh yeah a couple eletric vehicles would be nice too...
