@idea from Taylor
You know, sometomes i'm just sitting at the bar, or hanging out in a shop or whatnot. Since I don't have enough chy to do anything, and no one else is online or around for me to get stuff done, I decide to watch t.v. Although the only thing you ever show is commercials and they come on at randome intervals or however you determine their showing.. So I was thinking of having actual television shows, one because people ruin their lives because they spend all day in front of the tube, so it would be a little twist to see how many people choose t.v. over working. plus it would open new jobs like acting, or directing and all that.

Yeah! We could show Friends and the Tony Danza show!
*Shudder*

So become an actor Taylor.
By Hirononbu at Jun 6, 2004 7:17 PM
I will begin on a series of Tony Danza shows for the TV post haste!
There is a desire on the admin side to produce TV shows. But the problem is a critical mass of information. It takes me roughly 3 man hours to compose, write, and then convert to Babble-On a decent half hour script for a 'TV' show. In order to have enough content to do regular TV 'show' broadcasts that don't become massively repetitive we would need to have similar content levels to, oh, say a third rate FOX syndicate.
:)
It is something that we have batted about, and would -LOVE- to have in the game, but at the moment we just don't have the manpower to do it from the admin side only. We have at present 3 active GMs and 1 semi-active GM, and we are busy when we are on dealing with keeping things as active as we can in the game world.
That being said, if -anyone- is interested in writing scripted TV shows, commercials, holographic scripts, ect. DO check out the Scripting Forum, and DO contact an admin about it. Kevlar has done a fantastic job with the Babble-On script engine, it is easy to use, easy to learn, and very versitile. If you are intersted, do let us know, it can be an IC job with NLM (if your character is suited to that) or it can be an OOC job as a player content producer.
By Iga at Jun 7, 2004 8:24 AM
I can vouch for how easy Babble-On is too learn, especialy with the help files already availible. I can also vouch for how long it does take to try and write even a 5 minute TV spot for SD, since I've started one, then A.D.D. kicked in... But now that its been brought up again, maybe it will moitvate me to keep going with it.

Someone make a Solo of fortune show, for gun fanatics like me.
By Biohazard at Jun 7, 2004 9:54 PM
Here's an easy formula.
0. Do a quick search over google for 'TV Scripts' and add to favorites the ones you like.
1. Get one of the scripts into a notepad;
2. Paste Babble-On around it, making the nescessary poses and stuff.
3. Rinse
4. Repeat
And I think we should have reruns. If we get them even on cable nowadays, imagine in SD. There's only one Network that owns all channels (300+ of them) I even think that there should be an all day <thing>, everyday. Channel for almost anything, even a camera on the corpse burner.
http://www.script-o-rama.com/tv/tvscript.shtml <= Here's a good one.
And maby we could have a template to work over it?
By Xeethot at Jun 8, 2004 8:02 AM
90% of anything sent over the TVs will be massively repeated until most of you can repeat it effortlessly.
We will get there. Everytime someone has expressed interest, before I've had much chance to work on it, the person would leave and I would move on to code for someone who was about that needed my code. I try my best to code against your demands.
I'd love to have the TVs blabbing tons of stuff, but content and motivation have been lacking in the TV area as a whole. That is to say, it's both the staff and the players who have let TV be this unused.
3 live studios, fully working (though still a hack) control booth AND a remote spy cam!
I love TV almost as much as SD :)

Could I have a template program to work over?
It will be my new think to pass the time at slow days at work.

Thats what the $play_script is. Not sure what else you need.

You have that too.

The pilot program for my Sitcom is already submitted. In two parts A and B so you can put a commercial break in there.
Episode 1 of it is halfway thru. I'm aiming for one episode a week.
Later on I'll put a template up on the scripting forums so people can use and abuse it making their own shows.
I found it quite easy (but time consuming) to get a Script from the good old internet and format it into a Babble-On TV Show.
By Xeethot at Jun 9, 2004 1:16 PM
I've fixed the pauses and other spelling stuff.
Total time : 32m57s
Part A : 18:49
Part B : 14:08
Add one commercial break of 18 minutes and we've got a 1h show!
By Xeethot at Jun 9, 2004 9:45 PM
Sadly, I wouldn't put that past NLM....
By Hirononbu at Jun 10, 2004 6:48 AM
Just guessing... used to being in the NLM crap and all.. but wouldn't that be spammy? I think before anything gets implemented on a weekly basis, there needs to be a way to zap the TV to a diff channel if not turn it off.
i mean your in the middle of a shaddy deal in like some lair and all of a sudden porn puppets comes on and spams the screen for an hour. and since TV's and ad blimps, and other things that NLM broadcasts on are -everywhere- literally. that would hinder combat as well as various RP.
so i think its great, but this is one reason that fatored into my reasons for not putting a show up every week when i was in the position. besides the lack of time.
put a spork in me. I've cum.
By Tool at Jun 10, 2004 7:21 PM
That's a good idea... But the tvs should turn on once the room is emty or else everyone will turn all tvs off...
And the show is mostly to air at the times where the movement on the Dome is low.
Anyway I can always trim them down...
By Xeethot at Jun 10, 2004 7:32 PM
I like the idea of having it on a separate channel. Maybe broadcast it only in private rooms, bars and publicly changable TV's. So not on the add blimps, or in sidewalk TV's. The 2nd channel could also be a great place to show repeats of newscasts and such when they happen. It gives us the option of flipping over when we want that sort of RP. You could put a rotating NLM ad and a SIC ad that states that there's another channel, it could have info on how to access it and what can be found on it and what times.
Yep. Adios.
By Bias at Jun 10, 2004 8:39 PM
oOo Sic-ads that tell you what time shows are on!
By Nemisis at Jun 10, 2004 11:54 PM
So, like, instead of turning a tv off, you could just turn it back to "The Advertisement Channel" that we all love so much? And when you want to watch something else, you go to one of the other channels?
By Hirononbu at Jun 11, 2004 5:22 AM
dudes, we are way ahead of you:
IGNORE TV
(Try it, it's a command!)
By Iga at Jun 11, 2004 8:05 AM
Hehe, I was going to say that Iga.
I was thinking, why not record RP for TV?
Judge type PCs and even NPCs could have helmet cams, or other cameras, recording events from their perspective, as in.. the text that person sees is what is shown on TV. Then you can have crime shows etc. NLM reporter PCs could even go to a recording room, record some poses/emotes as an intro, with other recorded RP following.
An amateur channel could exist with content supplied by people going to a public booth and recording something for a fee. Advertising could be done in the same way, with recording length and showing frequency determining price, so that rich PCs can annoy everbody with a inundation of their advert. Monopolisation of advertising space ;).
Everything can currenlty by logged in SD with a time stamp etc, so I don't see why a program couldn't be written to allow for logged text to be displayed in the same time frame in which is first occured, if you guys haven't already decided to code such a thing.
That shouldn't make recording RP much of a problem right?
Gotta love monitor.
Anyway, just some pseudo-random ranting at 2 am.
Enjoy making sense of it and ripping it to shit.
Post ya in another year or so ;).

By Protagonist at Jun 12, 2004 6:19 PM
Hell yeah, the public booth is an awesome idea. you could use publically owned cameras on gold and red too.
COPS- on red. Kick ass!!!!!!
Judge1: Yeah, we got this call of some chummer arrested for assulting a TERRA Agent, they got him locked up at their HQ, so we're gonna roll over there to fine him and lace into him with some batons before we dump his broken ass in the sewers.
heh-
By Jotun at Jun 13, 2004 10:01 AM
Could open up low level IC jobs with NLM. Like in Transmet, instead of AmFeed you'd have the roaving NLM listeners.
The aftermath of a nother bloody showdown at the Drome Corral.
"So, Rychek. Any idea who did this?"
*shot of a bottle sailing towards the camera*
So what is the likelyhood of having multiple NLM channels? I still think that would be a cool idea.
By Bias at Jun 13, 2004 10:22 AM
Yeah, like a news channel, a documentary channel, with current trends, probably like 500 reality show channels.
By Hirononbu at Jun 13, 2004 5:40 PM
Actually NLM has loads of channels ICly, you can RP changing the station and even '!' some broadcasting to suit your RP.
By Xeethot at Jun 13, 2004 6:00 PM
I found something that it's both funny and short.
Saturday Night Live Scripts! One can make scripts for each sketch that can easily be played randomly with the NLM's ads...
By Xeethot at Jun 20, 2004 4:06 PM
OH!
OH OH OH! NLM roving listeners like in Transmet! OH OH OH!! We have to do that...
Johnny! Make it happen! I know we have the technology!!

Can't we get someone (Hiro) to do them (Bable-On).
I'm sure one of the players (Hiro) would be willing do to it (Bable-On). It wouldn't take much time (lots) and it is easy to do (trained chimp).

Hmm, I never really wanted to start a blog cause I never felt like I had much of interest to say. But not I'm reading Xee's Blog of Weirdness (you should really TM that, you know) and I makes me feel like I could actually write a blog and not have the most dull, boring, uninteresting, self-medicating blog on the internet.
Bring it on Xee, I'm ready. :sniper:

I used to have a blog once.
I bitched and angst.

But I don't use it to bitch and etc... And it's not about my life, just influenced by it. Dissertations on random subjects as I think abou them...
