Vehicle Colors
It should be fairly obvious, but isn't

Recently it became blaringly obvious that you have to remember to 'look' at a car or motorcycle, to see what color it is. I know I know, that's such a minor thing, it doesn't matter, right?

Wrong.

Take into account a hit and run, or a car following someone. A person should be able to see at a glance what color the car is, right?

Not to mention some cars are pretty distinctive colors that should be fairly eye-catching even without any other reason to notice the car. I'm not sure how the best way to integrate such a thing would be though.
Maybe give all cars a title that starts out with their colour and can be changed by admins if needed for cars that have had special custom paintjobs ? automatically make the title change whenever the car is given a paintjob ?

Instead of "A Holden VT XS is parked here", it would be a "pink holden VT XS is parked here".

Would all objects be able to support an %color with a little work or is it solely built up for dynafiber?

I imagine that vehicles should be able to visit the various garages for paint jobs if they were equipped with a location based function similar to how there's an object for redying the %color of dynafiber that enabled a mechanic to change a vehicle's %color with a clever @message that made sense for quick drying, accurate, laser-like paint spray with no mess. It's the future after all!

Opposite POV:

There are so few cars of any given model in the game that I think players SHOUL OOCly "look" to be able to scan anything other than model.

Pink Holden would be an instant giveaway as to whose car went by, realistically (speaking of the realities of gameplay, not of in-game realism).

Also: DynaFiber dyeing is not available, though "help tailoring" does make clear that it was planned at one point. I'm following this tangent to save players a lot of frustration when they get the idea to try to look for this option, which does not exist ICly no matter what Help Tailoring says. If it does become available and I'm still playing, I'll remember to bum this topic and state so.

Back to the cars: If "ambient traffic" spammed all kinds of cars in all the colors which player cars came in at us, obfuscating that player's Pink Holden among noise, including OTHER "virtual" pink Holdens, that might make the situation different.

My 2c, for what it's worth.

So yeah, maybe knowing the hit and run car's color seems realistic, but it unrealistically ignores the fact that there aren't actually tens of thousands of identical models in the same color on the streets. There should be (theme) and there aren't (MOO), so, encouraging players to get even farther away from perceiving ambient population would not be good for anything, IMO. If you aren't fast enough with your "look" and you can't scan anything about a particular car going by, that's realstic.
Similarly, knowing whether a specific car has been following you requires looking at it. This is where the "instant givaway" problem becomes a potential powergame problem. Hell, it should depend on perception too, for the looking character to learn very much at all, if you ask me.

People who DO use their cars to follow other characters already are handicapped by the vanishingly small numbers of cars in-game.

People who roleplay recognizing that they're being followed hopefully ARE putting a LOT of thought into how their character has picked this car up out of the hundreds which should be visible at any goven time in most street locations.

I've seen and tested the IC color dyeing equipment, whether or not it's seeded in the game beyond the original ones I couldn't say.

Cars have %color in them... Might change the integration message...
