Which, honestly it doesn't make sense economically for phones to be contained within a monopoly. There aren't any barriers to entry in that market today. The technology is so common and readily available that there would have to be significant technological rollbacks (which doesn't happen) in order for a single corp to have a monopoly on them.
It just violates the immersion and makes the game feel less like cyberpunk and more like some odd 1990s mesh with cybernetics and weird nanos.
I think you are not understanding that Sindome is not IRL simulator of the future. It is a diverged timeline based on cyberpunk theme. In the instance of "it doesn't make sense", think about the theme and the city itself. You are in a dome. They control the network. They control the access. If you don't want to pay for it then don't. Steal or find a fixer, or find low-tech options to circumvent it.
What I am saying is that the technology doesn't really support that theme. It doesn't feel technologically more advanced in anyway. Chrome phones might be a good resolution, and I support that idea.
But as it stands, this piece of technology is a weaker version of what we have today, which violates immersion.
The technology of the future is not guaranteed to progress uniformly across all fields.
There are many cyberpunk futures with CRT monitors, clunky phones, mechanical keyboards, wired terminals, etc, while simultaneously having cloning, genetic engineering, organ replacements, or biomodifications.
A clear example is Blade Runner, a trademark of Cyberpunk influence for Sindome's theme. Flying cars, artificial humans, and off-world colonies… while also having chunky terminals and CRT screens.
Chrome phones are a good idea, though, especially if you can pair it with a holoprojector eye to have holo calls with chrome. And for balance, you nab that idea of palm scanners to let dips to scan things with a sneaky touch. Plus, they can still be removed via ripperdoc from your corpse.
