Anti-Community?
Separation of IC and OOC

Okay, so this isn't exactly a complaint per-se, more just my observations as a new player. I also don't expect there to be much change *because* I'm new. However I wanted to give a bit of feedback and get some other views/perspectives.

On one hand, I get the desire to keep things separated. It helps avoid metagaming and makes for a much more immersive experience, which can be really fun.

On the other, it feels like building a sense of community among the playerbase is actively discouraged as a result when you can't share stories of things that happened with your characters or otherwise try and connect with the other players beyond what feels like superficial chatter.

To add further to the latter point, there are friends I think might enjoy the game, but I don't see a way I could invite them without it causing an inherent conflict of interest. What would I say? "Hey, I want you to play this game with me, except that we can't *actually* play together otherwise we might get banned"? Word of mouth tends to be a good way to encourage and develop a community and it feels like that's actively discouraged here.

Anyway, as mentioned I'm not really expecting anything to change, I just wanted to see what views others may have on the matter. I'm also still greatly enjoying the game and the people I have met IC, so still plan on continuing to play as my time allows, it just sometimes feels a bit lonely from the player viewpoint.

We have OOC-Chat where you can talk with other players, and is where most people do talk and become friends. Local OOC isn't the place for this.

You can share stories if they're more than a certain time in the past, which I can't remember off the top of my head, perhaps someone else will remember.

You can tell your friends about the game; Conflict of Interest only comes into play if either of you know who the the other plays. You can read more about this using @rules and looking at "3.J. Conflicts of Interest - Roleplay Restrictions due to OOC Contact"

3E) In some circumstance you may discuss 3+ year old RP on the War-Stories channel.

This should probably be updated to reflect the culture and enforcement changes around this rule, but that's the guideline.

Right, I recalled the three years or so thing, which as a new player, feels really prohibitive. Especially as sometimes when something fun and interesting happens, you may want to talk about it in the moment.

> You can tell your friends about the game; Conflict of Interest only comes into play if either of you know who the the other plays.

I do feel this kind of misses my point though. Usually the reason for telling your friends about a game is because you want to play with them, which this rule seems to actively discourage.

As mentioned though, I'm still likely to keep playing because I have been enjoying the world, theme, and people I've met IC. I also doubt I'm the first to bring up these concerns, or that I'll be the last. I just wanted to provide my feedback/view as a new player and that I very likely won't be recommending the game to my friends as I see little point if I can't knowingly play with them.
It's just inevitable thing that i don't expect will ever move. Having OOC colluding group in the game, in a bond that stands over where RP goes would just be -very- bad for the gmae.
I once attended a live performance art event that was a version of A Midsummer Night's Dream that was scattered through a wooded park at night. There were actors but everyone, including the audience, was in character and moved about through different scenes and different parts of the play interacting throughout the night. When someone was finished, they just left, quietly, so there was nothing to pierce the illusion. It was magical.

Sindome is not like that because there is a segment of the game that refuses to allow it to be like that, but trying to experience it like that is to me unquestionably the most impactful and unique way and the definitely the best as a new player. Every other place that exists online is a social venue and community gathering and hang out spot and place to share (and overshare) about personal lives. It's okay for there to be one place that isn't like that, where everyone sets their personal lives to the side in order to participate in the immerse experience, and just lets that be what it is.

I adore our XOOC community. Honestly, it is everything. And it's nice to keep that distance in the OOC while being able to talk in XOOC.
In fact I'm going to practice what I preach and get rid of discord and stop using the BGBB.

Later skaters.
