Our world, Sindome, is a online text-based roleplaying game. The dystopic themes from your favorite cyberpunk books, movies and games permeate our world like no other. Your role in Sindome is one of an immigrant, a fresh face in a hardened city of glass and steel. As your character explores the city, they'll make connections and relationships with other characters (some controlled by other players, some controlled by the game staff and some even on auto-pilot) and be thrust into the conflict of the ongoing class struggle between the corporate suits who have everything and the street scum who crave anything.

What is Cyberpunk?

In the near future, the line between man and machine blurs while the line between wealth and poverty sharpens. Cyberpunk (CP) is a genre of science fiction that thrives in this gray zone. The any-man tries to survive, often thrust into a situation he's reluctant to get involved in. Lost in the digital waste of an information age, his story fades into the static of the next big thing. Of course, while he's going out, he certainly has a style and substance all his own. After all, if you're going to go out in a blaze of forgotten glory, you'd better be looking your best. How much does this cost?

Sindome is maintained by a loose group of people that are dedicated to the enhancement of the roleplaying experience. They donate the funds needed to keep the server up and the access flowing. This means you can play Sindome for free as long as you like. Ofcourse...donations to help with the bills are welcome ;).

How do I play/connect?

Sindome is accessible from anywhere in the world as long as you have a connection to the internet. You can use the windows (95/98/NT) telnet client or you can download a shareware one with full options. The address for Sindome is:

What is a roleplaying game?

For years people have roleplayed, some people roleplay in their bedrooms, psychologists have their patients do it to help understand them, and millions of kids and adults have and still do play traditional roleplaying games such as Dungeons & Dragons, Shadowrun, GURPs and Cyberpunk 2020.

In a roleplaying game (RPG), a player creates a character and plays out that role in a world and situations designed by the referee, known as the "Gamemaster". In an RPG you're an actor on a stage bounded only by your imagination. Traditional computer RPGs focus on the character's statistics, his/her physical and mental attributes, to gauge the character's growth.

On Sindome, we focus on the feeling and enjoyment of a good roleplaying session. This can equated to reading a novel or watching a good movie. Roleplaying (RP) is a gauge of that sessions quality. If your heart is racing after being chased down a long alley by a seeming faceless hood only to just barely escape alive, then it was good for you. On the opposite end, a player creating a deep involved character who has phobias, likes, traits and personality gliches can also be great RP and is often noted by other players.

One thing all RPGs have in common is a coded system of sorts for resolving the events related to physical laws. While RPGs vary, there are two things that remain constant:

STATS

Many features of a game world have statistics which describe their function within that world. These are numeric representations of physical and mental attributes, and structural integrity.

DICE

Dice represent randomness or the chaos of reality. The stats of a character or object are pitted against the dice to determine triumph over, or defeat to, chaos. Ofcourse, Sindome doesn't use dice. But the results of random number generators are still referred to as "rolls", and often ones survival depends on these rolls.
